Dark Night is a term borrowed from the works of St John of the Cross to refer to the insight stages of Dissolution, Fear, Misery, Disgust, Desire for Deliverance and Re-observation, also known as the Dukkha Ñanas or Knowledges of Suffering, as it is easier to say than those terms and more catchy. These are also known as the stages of the Third Vipassana Jhana.
