Nullifying Bad Kamma

Hello,
Before I became vegetarian, I was a meat-eater. Many animals have been killed because of meat eating. Now I have a lot of bad kamma accumulated in this human life (almost 20 years of meat eating). I have read about hellish planets, where living beings are being sent to receive the result of their bad kamma. The descriptions are horrible. I don't want to end up is such a place.
Is there a way to nullity bad kamma? Is mettā the solution?
Thank you,
Marino

The fact that you feel bad about it and changed your actions is probably a net positive imo. If you continue to feel bad, consider donating / volunteering with animal care type groups?
Beyond religious speculation or personal experience it's hard to say anything at all definite about "karma", let alone the likelihood of all meat eaters ending up in some kind of hell realm.
Personally I would say follow your own moral compass, do what feels right for you (within reason) and don't worry overly much about potential punishment in the afterlife.

Thank you. Change in character and development of virtue cannot happen while one is working for a materialistic company. I practice mettā every day and see progress in character and virtue, but that's not enough. To develop nice character and a lot of virtue and good kamma, I would have to live in an authentic Buddhist community and practice every day in good association.

I'm a meat eater. I killed animals for food. I still eat meat. I'm apparently 2nd Path. No intent to stop eating meat. One can be a Buddha in a Hell Realm too! Imagine being there helping all the burning Hell Beings How lovely, to be able to be there with them and assist them in awakening. Rejoice!

That's actually not true! If you read the advice the Buddha gave for a lot of lay practitioners, making money usually was not a bad idea. He would often given advice on how to save/spend money, or what kinds of livelihoods not do do (basically things like weapons manufacturing or poisons). But he understood that not everyone is going to be a monk and gave advice accordingly.
